About thirty years ago The Park at St. Luke’s began as the seedling of an idea. Things have changed since then - buildings have been demolished, fences constructed, the neighborhood evolved. Through all these changes, the Park has remained a green refuge in our urban environment. In the fall of 2020, we refreshed The Park by adding plants while expanding its mission and functionality.
New garden beds focus on native plants offering habitat in the midst of an urban setting for birds, butterflies, and pollinators. As trees need to be replaced over time, the focus will be on native trees which are both aesthetically pleasing and beneficial to wildlife. We will improve the soil and drainage by mulching leaves in the fall, adding ground covers to all beds, and minimizing the use of pine straw mulch. These practices allow for a more naturally integrated appearance. This sanctuary for humans and wildlife also provides educational opportunities for children and adults.
